Kieran Crowley graduated from D.L.I.A.D.T, Dublin in 2000 with a qualification in Design Communications & Animation. After a spell living and working in New York, Kieran returned home and became involved with Delicious Nine Animation & Design; producing short films, music videos and visuals for film, television, and music festivals in Europe, the U.S, Canada & Japan.
After taking part in a number of group and solo exhibitions, Kieran's love of the single image saw him move away from animation and involve himself further with painting. Using his training in draughtsmanship as a foundation, Kieran began focusing on portrait and small nude studies.
Kieran became a full-time practising painter in 2006; and now focuses primarily on large scale nudes and portrait work. In November of 2008 Kieran was selected as a finalist in the inaugural Davy Portrait Awards at the Naughton Gallery, Queens University, Belfast.
Kieran's objective is simple, ‘I want to make this work as visually accessible to the viewer as I possibly can.’
As more work is produced, and as the size and scale this work increases, it becomes apparent that the levels of personal commitment given to each piece suggest the beginnings of a steadfast desire to nothing other than celebrate form and character though painting.
‘I'm a fan of form and not much else. I have no interest in producing work that won’t interest people on a personal level, and the idea that a perfect stranger can relate to someone they'll probably never encounter just by looking at how this person is composed and painted fascinates me. There is a direct and palpable relationship between the stranger on the canvas and the stranger in front of it that is only evident when the two are facing each other.’
Kieran Crowley had a solo show in Powersocurt Gallery in late Spring 2010.
